Few years back when a cousin of mine from Walajapet told me that ‘Out of all the Sterling Resorts, Yercaud is the best’, I was wondering why he was saying like that. I became curious to know.
I am a life member of Sterling right from its Inception and I’ve stayed in many of it’s resorts but not in Yercaud. Me and my wife went there the very next week and really enjoyed the the stay. My Walaja cousin was cent percent right.
This time I insisted 5 of our relatives from Chennai to join with us to Yercaud and they with little bit of reluctance agreed and came along with us. But they were not sure what was in store for them.
We checked in late at night and immediately after checking, my relatives were pleasantly surprised to see the magnificent Salem city with twinkling lights viewed from their exclusive large balcony. They thoroughly enjoyed the open balcony all the time which is overlooking the valley and the lust greens around it.
The next day early morning Salem city was covered with a blanket of clouds which was a real treat to their eyes which they dutifully videographed to send it to their grandchildren living abroad. The reflection of sunset light at evening from Mettur dam is another treat to their eyes.
Though any hill station will have something like these kind of attractions and there is no surprise about it, what fascinated almost all of us was the resort’s restaurant and the food served there. It’s unique in many ways.
The Chef Mr. R.Vijayan in particular and the overall staff in general need special mention. They’re so courteous and friendly. There is no way of escaping from their love and affection. You can always feel as if you’re at your own home. They dance to all your tunes, however irritating and troublesome your tunes are.
One afternoon we preferred to dine outside the restaurant on the balcony overlooking the valley. After the tables and chairs were painstakingly arranged by them on our request, we suddenly changed our mind and went inside the restaurant to eat. The smiles on the faces of the restaurant staff didn’t change a bit.
Besides, whatever you want, in whichever form you want the entire team would be too willing to bring it on to your table and it would be prepared tastefully just to delight you in every possible way. Morning breakfast buffet is widely spread with many dishes. Puri, potato masala, Podi dosa, masala dosa, ghee dosa, cheese omelette, masala omelette are all my favorites. Besides if you have any food in mind with any crazy Ideas you don’t have to hesitate at all. Just tell the chef. He would be too willing to prepare it for you specially.
You need a yummy dish for your child or you want a kind of special food for your elderly father, or your stomach is upset you want a soup with pepper or rice kangi? Tell him. He would willingly oblige without any kind of reluctance at all. Because he is none other than your own mother at a distance restaurant!
In short, don’t have a second thoughty at all. Don’t try to eat outside. Eat all the time at the restaurant. It’s very tasty and fairly priced. Worth for the money you pay!
Housekeeping is excellent. Did you forget to bring your toothpaste toothbrush or any other toiletries? Is it raining outside and you need an umbrella to go to the reception or the restaurant? Don’t worry. Just ring up the house keeping and in another 5 minutes it will be at your door step!
Right on the first day I exhausted all the stuff kept in the coffee tray. I rang up. They rushed a basket full of items that would last for one full month. They are so generous.
In all, I simply love Sterling Yercaud!
Kudos to the entire team and best wishes!
