For our summer vacation this year, we travelled to Wayanad for a 4 Night stay at Sterling Wayanad! It is a beautiful property with aesthetically designed cottages, surrounded by lovely flora and fauna! It was a pleasure just to walk around the resort along the winding pathways with their gentle slopes, taking in the sights and sounds of the birds, animals, butterflies and flowers! There is also a large and beautiful lake, with lots of fish. It is for sure a Nature lovers paradise!
The check in process was very smooth, quick and seamless. Ms. Dawa at the Front Office guided us very well and the formalities were done in a giffy. Ms. Dawa confided with us that she had just joined Sterling Wayanad and to excuse her in case of any short coming! We must admit that she was a Pro and indeed handled everything perfectly! Mr. Zoby and Mr. Sinil were very helpful with the Buggy rides! Once we reached the Resort after our Sightseeing, they were forthcoming and readily offered to ferry us to our rooms! Mr. Vishnu Suresh at the Front Office helped us out with the Bills and payment during check out. He was very patient and co-operative, meticulously executing the paper work!
The rooms are very well furnished, comfortable and spacious (We stayed in a Regular Room aka 1 BR), with tastefully done interiors which are very pleasant and functional. We really liked the seating area near the large glass windows. Perfect place to sit with your favorite book! The house keeping was impeccable and they did a great job in keeping the rooms spic and span!
The food at the Resort was exceptional. Machan Restaurant at the Resort is a beautifully designed space, and we were delighted by the interior design, natural light and colours. We enjoyed our meals and tried new dishes every day! The breakfast spread had a lot of variety. The high light of the Trip was the Onam Sadya which we had on the day we checked in! It was the first time we tasted an Onam Sadya, and we absolutely enjoyed the experience of having the Sadya! It was truly delicious. The Sadya was prepared by 2 Chefs from Cochin. The credit goes to Mr.Bijay at the Machan Restaurant, it was he who insisted that we try the Onam Sadya!
Special mention to all the Staff at the restaurant – Mr. Bijay, Mr. Suman, Mr.Pratheek, Mr.Pratap, Mr.Aditya and Mr. Bhishma! They took very good care of us and went out of their way to make us comfortable! Executive Chef Mr. Sanjo Jose frequently interacted with us to make sure if everything was fine and for feedback about the food! During dinner time Mr. Zakir Hussain kept us entertained with his beautiful renditions of melodies played on his guitar!
The various activities at the Resort are bound to keep you engaged! Some of the activities we enjoyed doing were Pottery, Zip Lining, Bird Watching, Swimming, Fish Feeding, etc. There is something for everyone in the family. Our 7-year-old son thoroughly enjoyed all these activities and loved exploring them! Mr. Dasan at the Potters wheel was very patient with our son and taught the nuances of Pottery with soo much interest and warmth! Mr. Dileep of Holiday Activities conducted some very creative and fun group activities which were very nice and enjoyed by all in the evenings.
The Bird Watching session early in the morning was truly amazing, leed by the very passionate Resort Naturalist Mr. Vishnu! He shared soo much information and nuggets about the birds, their habitat, their calls and uniqueness of each species of birds, apart from the wealth of knowledge he shared about the trees, insects and animals! It was definitely a masterclass on the ecosystem of the Wayanad region! It was eye opening and demonstrated how much we need to learn about the environment we live in. Mr. Vishnu is sure to go places and we will always remember the concern and love for nature that he has and the willingness with which he communicated / shared all that he knew about nature!
Last but not the least, kudos to Mr. T.G. Rajesh, Regional General Manager – Sterling Wayanad for the wonderful team he has created and nurtured at the Resort. Though the Resort, Food and Activities are wonderful, at the end of the day it is the People who make it extra special and deliver the happiness to the guests. In our opinion The Sterling Wayanad team has excelled in this aspect too. We found each and every one of them to be so helpful and caring which really made a world of a difference to us! Everyone starting from the Front Office managers, the buggy drivers, the house keeping staff and the restaurant staff were so warm and delighted us beyond measure!
It was indeed a memorable holiday in all respects for us, which we will remember for a long time to come!
