The monsoons in Kerala can be best enjoyed from this charming resort that sits on the edge of a private lake that extends into the backwaters of Alleppey amidst stretches of green rice fields. The approach to the resort is through rice fields. Guests are transported by buggy to the reception, and then to their rooms which may be in two floored Spanish-styled buildings overlooking the water, or in wooden bungalows that are built on the water. I stayed in one such bungalow.
It was a wooden structure with a large bedroom with a sitting area. Its french windows facing the lake open on a deep wooden veranda and a small lawn on the edge of the lake. The room had a flatscreen TV, a safe, an iron, an electric kettle with adequate tea and coffee supplies, a large bathroom with great hot water, and a very comfortable. The air conditioning was adjustable to the desired temprature.
The restaurant served a buffet breakfast and a la carte meals, but depending on the occupancy, they served buffet lunches and dinners. The restaurant staff was attentive and helpful. The live counter made dosa and eggs to order. The Bar is in the adjacent room. It has very comfortable chairs. Both the restaurant and bar overlook the lake and have memorable views of the sunset when the evening colours the waters.
The swimming pool is an interesting feature, it is built in the lake itself, giving a whole new meaning to the term ‘infinity pool’. There is an adequate gym, but the well-paved walking paths that circle the lake and meander through the manicured gardens on the property are a walker’s delight.
The hotel is happy to arrange backwater boat tours, but public water busses have a stop at a pier at the edge of the property. The main Alleppey town is a pleasant 3 kilo meter walk along a canal, should one choose to walk. I did.
This is perhaps the best property belonging to Sterling group.
