This is a property that is set apart from the rest (quite literally!) as it is not in the main town of Darjeeling but in the highest town in the region (approx. 7400 feet) in Ghum around 8 km from the Darjeeling mall. Though this brings with it some minor hurdles of heading to the main mall area every time you want to go to town, it also gives you that feel of exclusivity and seclusion, a trait sadly that is all but disappearing from most hill station stays with each passing day.
It is lovely to visit the old, original Ghum Monastery and the Heritage train station especially in the mornings. We loved walking down to the station every day and spending some quiet, meditative time at the monastery. Shows you a different side of Darjeeling…
The resort is one of their better offerings, with well appointed rooms and all the amenities you will require from a 4 star property. Prem Subba at reception is always there to receive you with a smile at the Front Desk and check in was a breeze. Our room was neat, clean and beautifully located to be able to access the Kanchenjunga viewing point easily and quickly, especially in the morning. All our needs were met including room heaters, and a microwave for heating things up. Both Jiwan Pradhan and Pradip went above and beyond and did an excellent job in making sure that our stay was a nice one. Thank you all for your sincere efforts!
Pro tip:
1. Walk down to the main road if you are 1-2 persons and then take a local ‘share’ taxi to Darjeeling for Rs 20 per person only.
2. Try to upgrade and book a 1 bedroom apartment/cottage here as they are a class apart. You won’t find better rooms till you visit the better hotels in Darj.
