it was our x-mas vacation as we had not planned for a holiday, i was quite upset to spend the year end at home..it was my husband who insisted to go to kalimpong (we hv been to kalimpong more than 20 times since our college days) and assured me that m gonna remember this vacation for a long time… halfheartedly, I started my vacation. it was 25th dec morning…..the temp hitting around 2-3 degree by the time we reached kalimpong…x-mas carols were sung everywhere…the atmosphere was festive….and that melted my annoyance. we drove uphill to rinkingpong road. after going for about one kilometer, we took a sharp right bend and there we were in front of a heritage property. the very 1st glance of the UTTAR DINAJPUR RAJA’S SUMMER PALACE (now renamed as Kalimpong Park hotel) and m in love with the place.
my husband booked us a room in the heritage block….as we were climbing the staircase, we saw carcase of taxidermed deer, bishon, and royal bengal tiger mounted on the wooden wall….we started feeling royal…..the interior of room and bathroom is wood mounted….the real charm of the place is the sitting area having collection of books, travelogues and a small bar with all cane furniture to give the feeling of british raj era…..food menu is limited and they follow precise timing…we enjoyed our food outside the hotel….u get numerous good restaurants in main street of kalimpong which is 15-20 mins walk…i must say,we reinvented our love and under this british raj era in our favourite Kalimpong…..
